Prepare for an out-of-this-world experience as Virgin Galactic successfully launched its first tourists into space. Among the passengers were a former British Olympian who had purchased his ticket 18 years ago and a mother-daughter duo from the Caribbean.
The space plane gracefully glided back to Earth, landing at Spaceport America in the New Mexico desert. Passengers were treated to a few minutes of weightlessness during the brief flight. This milestone achievement allows Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic to join the ranks of Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin and Elon Musk’s SpaceX in the space tourism industry.
“That was by far the most awesome thing I’ve ever done in my life,” exclaimed Jon Goodwin, an 80-year-old former Olympian who purchased his ticket in 2005. Goodwin, who has Parkinson’s disease, hopes his spaceflight will inspire others with illnesses to pursue their dreams.
