Attention all US Facebook users! If you’ve been active on the platform in the past 16 years, listen up because you have a limited time to claim your piece of a whopping $725 million. Now, we know this might sound too good to be true, but trust us, it’s legit.
Back in 2018, a class action lawsuit was filed against Facebook, alleging that the company allowed unauthorized access to personal user data by Cambridge Analytica and other third parties, all without the users’ consent. While Facebook’s parent company, Meta, denies any wrongdoing in the case, they did reach a settlement with the class action lawsuit in December 2022, stating that it was in the best interest of their community and shareholders.
This lawsuit was filed on behalf of a staggering 250-280 million people who used Facebook between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022. That means if you fall into this category, you have a golden opportunity to claim your share of the $725 million. But hurry, the clock is ticking! The deadline to apply is Friday, August 25 at 11:59 p.m. P.T. Don’t worry if you prefer snail mail, you can still apply by post, but make sure your letter is postmarked by Friday.
Now, let’s talk about who can apply. According to the settlement website, the only exclusions are Facebook employees, legal representatives, and “alleged co-conspirators.” So, if you’re not part of that group, congratulations! You’re eligible to apply for your share. Keep in mind, though, that if everyone actually applies, the payout would only amount to around 2-3 dollars per person. Still, it’s better to claim what’s rightfully yours, right?
